More than 1,000 families are targeted
to receive groceries during the Thanksgiving holidays.

© Feed3As part of the FEED 3 program, sites are being chosen throughout high poverty areas to provide families groceries. The first two sites are located in West Dallas, with additional sites to be added as funding permits. Each family received a turkey, ham, hens, as well as fresh vegetables and fruit, along with additional groceries.

Residents receiving assistance are the 25% of Dallas residents living below the poverty line (a family of three is considered living in poverty if they make below $20,090), and another 46% of Dallas residents live below 185% of the poverty line (this means that a family of 3 makes less than $37,167). Poverty in Dallas grew 49% since 2001. Children account for 124,884 or 38% of those living in poverty.

Dallas has the second fastest growing rate of poverty among large cities of its size, which accounts for a 59% increase of impoverished children. Hispanics and African Americans lead the totals of the impoverished, with 156,104 Hispanics and 98,888 of African-Americans experiencing the greatest financial challenges.

This past summer, FEED 3 participated for its fourth year supporting twenty-five feeding sites in West and South Dallas. The FEED 3 segment that focuses on hunger is entitled Feed the Body. It consists of making sure the more than 280,000 children in the greater Dallas area that face hunger, have a meal. The segment that focuses on education in the classroom is Feed the Mind, and the segment that focuses on building non-governmental support is Feed the Soul via church and business partnerships.

FEED 3 has been recognized for its work fighting hunger across Texas by national, state, and local leaders. Most recently, FEED 3 has been working with state officials on how to move families dependent on welfare into self-sustainable solutions.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings speaking of FEED 3, said “This is what makes our city special. Our city is known for grabbing an issue and addressing it in a big and successful way. Randy Skinner (FEED 3 founder) has done that around hunger. It’s marvelous to see his work and to see how God works through him as well”.
